The game was a runaway succeeder , garner rave scores and love from fan of both the Disney property and the Genesis . Disney ’s Aladdinis really the third - gamy selling secret plan on the Genesis , beat out only bySonic the Hedgehogand its subsequence . That ’s quite the effort , especially for a licensed plot .

It should come as no surprise then that , in this daylight of retro nostalgia in gaming , theAladdinis enjoy a resurgence of sorts . With its crisp , gorgeous graphic and fluid gameplay , it ’s becoming a classic all over again . But one group of software engineer over atGame HistorythinksAladdincould have been dependable .

The folks at Game History found the consummate beginning codification for the game – the foundation for the game ’s programming – in their own solicitation , The Video Game History Foundation . Using the code , contributor Rich Whitehouse was able to reconstruct the biz for the rice beer of conservation . Going through the code , Whitehouse found several assets and gameplay features that were abridge from the concluding secret plan , but still remain in the game ’s files . He decided to reemploy many of these cut features , essentially create an all new game .

The list of what Whitehouse rejuvenate is extensive . Among his finds was the original design document - a roadmap developers create early on in development detailing their vision . With this written document , Whitehouse set about make what he thought was the developers original , uncompromised version of the secret plan . He was capable to mend bonus rounds , young enemies like a sword swallower and golden monkey , and even new music thanks to the help of Aladdin ’s original composer , Tommy Tallarico , among other changes .

It ’s hard to say why any of these features were cut in the first place . Maybe the developer believed some of these features did n’t make the secret plan palpate good to play , or they could n’t terminate go through them in time . Some will wonder why Whitehouse felt the demand to change the original game at all , considering its all - clip majuscule status . These change come from the original developers of the game , they ’re not some lover made changes that completely break the plot . Whether or not any of these addition makes the game better or worse is up for debate , but from a historical view , it ’s captivating to see the game we could have get .

Of course , none of this matters as the Super Nintendo version ofAladdinis superscript . That ’s the version I play when I was a kid anyway , so it must be the best . Despite apportion the same name and a similar release date , the two game are very different . The Genesis rendering does have undecomposed animations and artwork , but the SNES version has the more interesting gameplay .
