Bob Odenkirk : Sometimes .

Catherine Keener : A little bit , right ?

Bob Odenkirk : Yeah . He let me try stuff .

Evelyn and Winston Deavor in Incredibles 2

Catherine Keener : Yeah . But he ’s the , he ’s amazing .

Bob Odenkirk : Well , my character is n’t all that funny .

SR : Yeah .

The Incredibles 2

Bob Odenkirk : He ’s kind of the unbent occupation in the movie . I think we both are . I think Brad , one of the things that is amazing about his ability is to have that action movie happen . He desire you to be engaged like you are in an natural process moving picture . The stakes are high and it ’s a rattling serious situation and then next to it is this family comedy that gets really loony and sport . So , with our part , peculiarly mine , I think I played , he ’s an exuberant character .

Catherine Keener : Yeah .

Bob Odenkirk : And he ’s a bit outsize , but he ’s meant to be a part of the serious activity part of the film .

Catherine Keener : Same . Yeah . Actually , it is risible because I was disquieted when I was doing it , when I was doing the recordings . I just remember , “ Oh . I did n’t get it ripe . It ’s not funny . ” And then I clear I ’m not suppose to be .

Bob Odenkirk : Right . Right .

Catherine Keener : It was squeamish to not have that oh - ness of having to fricking land some funny line all the clip .

Bob Odenkirk : I think of , if I did n’t respect Brad so much I would have been goofier . [ laughs ]

SR : Sure .

Bob Odenkirk : But I completely thought he bed what he want and this is what he wants and needs and I like play a guy who was kind of a positive salesman energy . You love , Saul Goodman in Better Call Saul , he is so duplicitous and he ’s , you hump , this was a case who is a salesman , but he loved what he was say and his beloved was genuine .

SR : Now with theIncredibles , it ’s obviously a superhero story but it is also a great role study on kinfolk . Now , for anybody who has n’t seen the photographic film yet , can you guys talk about your family relationship as brother and sister being a mob ?

Bob Odenkirk : Adult sidekick and sister . dissimilar talent . unlike focuses like a pot of , my two kids are loving to each other now that they are older . And yet , very unlike in their interests and the thing that they wish to do with themselves . Like my son likes perform and my daughter avert all camera .

Catherine Keener : Oh , that ’s too funny .

Bob Odenkirk : You recognise , I recollect that they are like as a blood brother and baby can . They share something …

Catherine Keener : His charm … I’m sorry . I think so too . Because his graphic symbol is a sales representative , but I think it ’s an extension of your generousness with masses and your how , I mean , not you in fussy . You ’re not like that .

Bob Odenkirk : No . Not me . I ’m awful . Selfish bastard .

Catherine Keener : I mean , like how you ’re inclusive and stuff like that and I think that ’s something I could not , was not ever really good at . I was more awkward than that and I think that ’s there some form of hush-hush . It ’s something that I wish I had of his . It ’s not a competition in that way . You make love , I do n’t desire to be like him because I ca n’t be , but I can …

Bob Odenkirk : You lie with , a lot of time a brother and sister I think will fix themselves as diametric of their brother or sister . So , if the sister goes he ’s the gregarious societal one , I am really really not and they do n’t even make an attempt to rise those talents because that ’s his thing . I know with my brother Bill , who ’s a writer on The Simpsons and who came last dark , he ’s acquire a doctorate in chemical science from the University of Chicago .

Catherine Keener : Holy moo-cow ! That ’s astonishing .

Bob Odenkirk : He ’s such a funny guy . And the day he complete his doctorate , he fly to LA to drop a line on Mr. Show .

Catherine Keener : No !

SR : Oh wow .

Bob Odenkirk : And he ’s operate in comedy since then . Never done any chemistry at all . A doctorate !

Catherine Keener : But that makes so much sense to me . I have to say .

Bob Odenkirk : But I asked him , “ Why did you do that ? ” And he goes , “ Well , your thing was comedy so I pushed off from that and did n’t even stress and I got into scientific discipline , which I could do which you did n’t seem to have any stake in . ” So you’re able to define yourself to such an extent that you’re able to push yourself away from prepare any abilities .

Catherine Keener : It ’s funny . Yeah .

Bob Odenkirk : These two are like , “ Oh . She ’s the brains and the creative thinker and the plotter and I ’m just … ”

Catherine Keener : And I ’m not going to compete for being liked .

Bob Odenkirk : Yes . I ’m not even going to try .

Catherine Keener : I ’m not going to try .

Bob Odenkirk : Cause he ’s so like and he likes people so much .
