The army hails from what ’s being calledDC ’s ' Dark Multiverse,‘a sea of eternal parallel worlds where nightmare come true . Since there ’s no real way for even anevilBatman to steal Superman ’s powers for himself , he ’s squeeze to do the next best thing . He ’s used Kryptonite to best Superman in the past , so perhaps it ’s not amassivestretch for him to experiment with a form of the Doomsday Virus , turn himself into the same bony , oversized , unkillable monster the once punched Supes into oblivion . And now that the artwork forTHE DEVASTATOR#1 has been released , devotee can see this twisted vision of Superman ’s most believe ally for themselves .
So far DC fans have heard of several Dark Multiverse Batmen , fromthe Batman who steal Flash ’s speed , to the version ofBruce Wayne who became The Joker . Even a reimagining of Bruce Wayne ’s own stock report , when a power ring landed on his finger the nighttime of his parents ' deaths , turning him intoa muderous Green Lantern yell Dawnbreaker . But for Man of Steel rooter of the 1990s ( or the version fancy inBatman V Superman ) nothing beat Doomsday .

The first announcement of the Evil Batmen revealedconcept art of the Doomsday Batman , but this graphics offer something different : the moment that Batman successfully infects himself with the Doomsday Virus . At least that ’s the opinion give , with Doomsday ’s famous white-haired frame and bony protuberances erupting out of the Batsuit . And loathe as we are to show too much into a individual image , the roaring joke / grin on Bruce ’s ( Bruceday?Doomswayne ? ) aspect suggests this villain may be less sympathetic than other variations .
Because Scott Snyder and James Tynion - the writers leading the flush on conceiving these Dark Multiverse nightmares - are n’t looking to make one - note , easy defeated ' iniquity . ' As Snyder explained when announcing the course of book at SDCC , it ’s about finally giving answers to the questions he and other Batman fans had asked … without want toknowthe truth :
" What if he[Bruce ] this one tour as a kid and desire to bestow his parent back in a fashion that would take him into the dark ? What if after Superman died , Batman begin experiment with the Doomsday virus in a way that would prevent this from ever happening again , but he goes too far ? … Why Bruce might use the Speed Force to try and be faster should a disaster have happened . Why he might go up against Ares . "
We can only assume that the death of Superman will lead to the burning cityscape behind the Doomsday Batman ’s parentage ( with the bird of Jove , as opposed to a gargoyle suggesting Metropolis , not Gotham ) . The real question , then , is how much destruction this Multiverse DEVASTATOR will bust up on his own world before storm into DC ’s independent universe .
