I Am Legend
Despite a few problems, Will Smith makes this update ofThe Omega Manwork.
The plot ofI Am Legendis pretty obvious from the trailers and commercials , so it ’s not so much about surprise and secret plan twists as much as it ’s about experiencing what Will Smith ’s fiber go through . At this , the movie succeed very well .
I Am Legendis the story of a viral cure for cancer gone horribly untimely . As the film open we see a television consultation with a scientist who has succeeded in modifying a lethal virus so that it cures disease alternatively of make it . The initial composition are extremely encouraging , with thousand of cases of cancer whole heal .
Of course we know what the final outcome will be and watching that news segment will cause you to cringe in your seat .
The movie then climb up to three years afterwards as we see Will Smith as Robert Neville , the survivor of a computer virus that has pass over out most of the universe on Earth drive the street of an empty and overgrown New York City ( I could n’t help oneself thinking that this was a radical environmentalist ’s dream get along true ) . Seeing this vista on the mammoth IMAX CRT screen suck you into the motion-picture show wholly , lay down you feel like you ’re right there .
His days seem to be all about endurance : hunt for deer that now run devoid through the city , scavenging for food and supply for him and his dog Sam , and staying physically set . finally we learn that he was a high ranking military man who was somehow involved in induce the calamity and is obsessed with touch on it .
Throughout the film we are shown flashbacks taking us to the final minutes before the island of Manhattan is cut off and quarantined . It seems that NYC was ground zero for this pandemic and Neville is determined to stick there and find a fashion to end it before it gets out of controller . He adjudicate to get his married woman and young girl off the island before it ’s entirely quarantine . These scenes are very compelling and give us a lot of insight into both his character and his pain sensation . All of this is great clobber and quite absorbing .
Eventually though we must be enclose to the creepy-crawly victims of this disease who have survived as mutate creatures , and slowly the film shifts gears into something that by the end , is a typical action / behemoth pic . I remember it was in force when there were just a few creatures shown , but by the end when hundreds of them appear it seemed like I was watching a different moving picture . It was still good , but not as great as the first half .
Another thing that feel kind of off - center was how Neville interacted with some mannequins that he set up at a local video rental store that he frequented . I can understand how after three years he might do that for at least some semblance of other humanity being around , but the way he reacted to one female manakin in particular was a flake too strange . It made him seem like he had really gone off the deep final stage , yet he was still sane enough to survive and to continue research on a cure for the disease .
There was also another instance where he totally misunderstand the reaction of one of the creatures when he had catch another . I thought the meaning of the reaction was blatantly obvious but he assumed something all polar , with big event down the line .
As to the complaints about the CGI in the moving-picture show , I thought the cervid looked great . I did palpate that the mutated homo looked a bit too " videogame - ish " for the overall tone of the plastic film , but it was n’t enough to ruin the whole thing for me .
I have heard that there were last minute re - shoots on the movie to change the ending and I ’m hop that when the DVD is released that they let in the original one . I ’m curious to see how they were get going to end it and to see if it would have work better .
Despite the issues I mention above , overallI Am Legendis still really enjoyable and well deserving checking out , especially on the giant IMAX CRT screen .
