James Gunn confirms Groot ’s final line inAvengers : Infinity War , and it makes the ending even more heartbreaking . After all of these years , Thanos last made his move and basically altered the Marvel Cinematic Universe . With just the duck soup of his fingers , the frantic Titan pass over away one-half of the universe ’s population . The fatal accident may go beyond what ’s revealed in the motion-picture show , but the moments that now play along the pivotal snap showed several of the MCU ’s biggest heroes go away before the other heroes ' very eyes .
Even thoughInfinity War ’s death are n’t necessarily permanentin most example , the reaction they ’ve caused in the movie help make it work . Tom Holland ’s performance in his " death " scene has particularly caught the attention of moviegoers . But thanks to theGuardians of the Galaxydirector , Groot ’s death may in reality be the most tragical of them all .

Groot viewing Rocket as his father and then straight off referring to him as such completely changes the dynamic of the two characters . While in 2014’sGuardians , Groot is Rocket ’s muscle and protector , but the roles were switched inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol . 2 . Gunn already confirmed that thenew version of Grootis a completely unlike from the lineament hearing saw in the first movie - and that was unmistakable by how Rocket cared for Groot in theGuardianssequel . But , with the rest of the Guardians helping raise the youngster , the fact that Groot views Rocket as his dad just adds another layer to what they ’ve break down through .
Considering how much of theGuardians of the Galaxyfranchise has revolve around themes of family , next films are ripe to further search this family relationship . Everyone expect Groot and most of the fellow heroes who disappear to return , and Chris Pratt ’s indicated as much in teasing howexcited he is forGuardians of the Galaxy Vol . 3 . Assuming they are all brought back from the dead ( evenGamora could still be alive through the Soul Stone ) , then the teen form of Groot could be reunited with Rocket . How that father - boy dynamic could be explored is up for Gunn to make up one’s mind . However this influences the futurity , Groot ’s final line is certain to only make this particular consequence that much more poignant on repeat viewings ofAvengers : Infinity War .
