It ’s officially thehighest gross R - rated horror movieof all time – beatingThe Sixth SenseandThe Exorcist – and it received strong reviews from both critics and fans .
The repulsion literary genre has been having a great year ; not only wasITa record - shatter success , but movies likeGet Out , Annabelle : CreationandSplithave also pull healthy gain and corking reviews . DespiteIT’shefty runtime , it still had to trim out a few scenes . Pennywise role player Bill Skarsgard recently speak of one such“disturbing ” flashback sceneset in the 1600s that was snub , but he did n’t explain why it was so formidable .
Thanks to a podcast interview over atThrowing Shade , actor Timothy Simons – who test for the Pennywise function – confirm rumors the scene featured the creature consume a child . Simons had this to say about the flashback :
It was [ Pennywise ] right smart back at the source of Derry convincing the woman to give him her baby to eat up . And it was scary . The thing that was scariest about it was that it was very direct . It was , ' If you do n’t do this , these are the things that I ’m go to do . ' And they were all terrible .
A post has also pop up onRedditthat appears to show the scene as it appeared in the script ; it features a woman distinguish Abigail endeavor to shield her baby from an early manikin of the shape - shifting monster . Pennywise takes on a few unlike soma throughout the shot and demands the young female parent hand over her child to him , or he ’ll destroy the entire community . This snipping come from the destruction of the scene :
She turns aside from the baby . confront those dying embers . We keep on her face as they seem to begin GLOWING bright AS – OVER HER SHOULDER – OUT OF FOCUS – Pennywise cringe over to the Baby and starts to feast . SHARP CRY FROM THE BABY CUT OFF as we hear a CRUNCH . Abigail proceed to wait into the BRIGHT Orange River incandescence of not the flickering fire … … but the DEADLIGHTS . Her facial expression changing . Fear . Denial . Grief . Acceptance . And then nothing . Just a glazed look . AS IF NOTHING HORRIFIC IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING BEHIND HER .
It ’s unknown if this flashback was filmed or was scripted only , but it ’s a chilling scene that shows that Pennywise infected Derry with his evil from an early stage . Perhaps managing director Andy Muschetti absent the scene because he matte up it was a little too horrific , or because he wanted to keepPennywisemore of an enigma . There ’s been talk of aDirector ’s CutofITthat will restore some of the central delete scenes , so there ’s every chance this flashback could re-emerge in that rendering .
