In the feature adaptation , which made its first appearance over the weekend , newcomer Sophia Lillis plays the theatrical role — the only female member of the Losers ' Club . She ’s a young girl who weather abuse from her founding father that finally carries over into her adult relationships , as well as the love interest for Bill and Ben . In the 1990 mini - serial , the elder version of Beverly was portrayed by Anette O’Toole ( Smallville ) , and the younger loop was played by Emily Perkins ( Ginger Snaps ) .
During an interview withVariety , writer Justin Kroll floated by the idea of Chastain tackle the use of Beverly in the sequel , as she does bear a resemblance to Lillis . " I do n’t get it on , does she ? " Muschietti reply . " Jessi is an amazing actress and very good friend and I would roll in the hay her to play Beverly . " But , he continued , it ’s too other to make that call :
" She loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense , but we still have to make that bechance . There are a lot of ideas for the respite of the cast that I ’m playing with , but it ’s a morsel too previous to say those names right now . "

Chastain , for her part , has work with Muschietti before : She starred in his directorial debut , 2013’sMama . She ’s also proven a propensity for take on complex character in films likeZero Dark Thirty , Crimson Peak , andThe Help . It ’s likely it will be some meter before any prescribed casting declaration are made , but Chastain would surely make an apt choice for the part .
