The Flywas unloosen in the summer of 1986 and it was met with positivist reviews . The movie follows Seth Brundle ( Jeff Goldblum ) , who is a scientist that invent telepods which can teleport unrecorded objective as well as mutilate the tissue paper of the organism . Brundle decides to take his experiment one footstep further and teleport himself but things do n’t go according to plan . A fly sheet was incidentally teleported with him which caused him to attain the ability of a fly . It vocalize like the origin tale for a superhero but things go downhill fairly quickly as his body begins to mutate and devolve until he is a fly - human hybrid and stop with Brundle losing his life-time .
