The first two episode ofDiscoveryframe the human relationship between Georgiou and Burnham as the show ’s beat heart , a captain and her trusty first officer whose family relationship transcends social rank . This was , of course , part ofDiscovery’singenious thaumaturgy of making the first two episodes essentially a prologue to what the show will actually be . Georgiou ’s death was not only personally devastating for Burnham - who had sell Georgiou during the intensify Klingon conflict - it also specify up the character for a salvation electric discharge down the argument .

Kurtzman ’s call for solitaire is curious . Could he be teasing a return to spirit ?
