While it occupies a different writing style than eitherFrankorRoom , Little Strangeris similar to both cinema in the sense that it focuses on the experiences of a traumatized individual ; in this case , Roderick Ayres ( Will Poulter ) , a state of war old hand and member of the Ayres family , which has live in Hundreds Hall for hundred . As the trailer illustrate , Little Strangerfocuses on Faraday ’s efforts to help Roderick , during the course of which he uncover secrets about not only the Ayres , but even his own personal history at their crumble manor house . Fortunately , Little Strangerscreenwriter Lucinda Coxon knows her room around a mediaeval supernatural thriller , having antecedently done uncredited playscript work on Guillermo del Toro’sCrimson Peak . The cast here is similarly impressive , with Charlotte Rampling andLuther ’s Ruth Wilson feeling right at dwelling in this kind of atmospheric period horror story . The Little Strangeris go far in theaters at the end of August , so finger crossed it will prove to be a tardy summertime indie stone ( a la last year’sGood Time ) and keep Abrahamson ’s impressive filmmaking stripe drop dead strong , when it comes to timbre .
