The Nun

The Nunwriter Gary Dauberman is excuse what separates the upcoming repugnance thriller fromThe ConjuringUniverse movies that originally featured the character . Filmmaker   James Wan all but accidentallycreated a   shared film universein 2013 withThe Conjuring , a horror - thriller that   chronicle a case of fiendish possession by actual - life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren ( Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga ) .

Not only wasThe Conjuringa huge hit , it spawn a smash spinoff , Annabelle , free-base on the ghoulish doll that was featured in prologue ; and thanks to the massive success ofThe conjuration 2 , two more characters get spinoff movies : The Crooked Man , and the demonic specterof a nunthat   haunt Lorraine Warren throughout the film .

And while the titular eccentric is obviously connected toThe Conjuringfilms , Dauberman says in a late interview withColliderto expect a much different movie . He tell :

" Y’know , James [ Wan ] has been really particular and he wants each movie in the universe to have its own sort of flavour and its own sense of style and not feel like it ’s just kind of a rehash of what ’s follow before and I guess   The Nun   takes a really coolheaded approach that , you know , we have n’t seen before in some of the other moving picture . "

WhileThe Conjuringfilms andAnnabellewere set in the seventies andAnnabelle : Creationwas set in the forties and ' fifty , The Nun’stime menstruation has not yet been bring out . According to Dauberman , though , it will have the ambience of the classic produce by a famed London - based studio   that came into its blossom in the late 1950s and sixties that usher in the world to the likes of ikon Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee .

" It ’s not … just based on the localisation alone , like where he was very particular about no , it ’s   got ta   be in Romania because of sure account element , but also because of the output value you get from like , a castle in Transylvania , and this big loom affair , and you get the crown of thorns and the haze over the graveyard . It ’s very atmospheric , it ’s very moody . We peach a wad about the Hammer movies and stuff like that as sort of an influence .   So   it ’s got that form of vibration to it that I cerebrate it ’s just different and sets it apart . "

Since   the demon nun ’s shot inThe conjure 2were easy among the chilling in the celluloid , it will be interesting to see how Dauberman , Wan and director Corin Hardy maximise the potential of the character inThe Nun .   The bonus is , since the persona is being plugged into a Hammer horror - like air ( the studio apartment in all of its technicolor glory produced some of the most creepy and unnerving photographic film of late ' 50 , entire ' 60 and former ' 70s),The Nunis almost guaranteed to be definitive chiller out of the logic gate .

When it comes to the prospects ofThe Nun , the film definitely has some descent , and that ’s not just because of Wan ’s involvement . Dauberman has not only been a cardinal player inThe ConjuringUniverse pic ( which combined havemade more than $ 1 billion worldwide ) , he also was a co - screenwriter on this weekend ’s freak blockbusterIT.If there ’s an " it - guy " in Hollywood right now , it ’s Dauberman .
