Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
In the newStar Wars : The Last Jeditrailerthere is a drawn-out scene that teases the opening of Kylo Renkilling his mother , General Leia Organa . In the thick of a blank space battle between The First Order and the Resistance , Kylo Ren sit down at the helm ofhis TIE Fighterand share meaning glances with his mother , General Organa , as they apparently sense each other , their emotion intesifying . Played by the later great Carrie Fisher , Leia ’s function inThe Last Jediis await to be pivotal , but it ’s possible that the beloved character reference will satisfy her end , or at least the beginning of her end , at the hand of her Logos , specially devote that she will not appear inStar state of war : Episode IX .
Then again , theStar Warsseries is known for grand twist and mismanagement and what looks like an remainder for the Rebellion ’s General might be a red herring . Still the potential has given die hard Star Wars devotee and the cyberspace a deal to cogitate about .

It ’s important to break down the scene . Kylo Ren ( Adam Driver ) , in a unforgiving soliloquy throughout the space battle , convinces the audience to " permit the past times fail … Kill it . If you have to . That ’s the only elbow room to become who you were meant to be . " These shot are interposed with scenes of Leia and Kylo Ren ’s hand on the trigger while targeting the bridge of a ship that does n’t resemble any known First Order designs . It ’s rounded with almost a Resistance feel to it , clearly Leia ’s command vessel . The redaction leads us to trust Kylo has a shot that would conceivably add the ship down and kill everyone onboard but he hesitate . All of this is interspersed with shots of his mother Leia bet longingly , anxiously as she ostensibly sense him . Again , the redaction at least makes it seem that way . That ’s also disregard with more shot of Resistance fender Poe Dameron ( Oscar Isaac ) in the aftermath of a massive battle , turn to the photographic camera and speak in an absolute fury that " We are the spark that will light the firing that ’ll burn the First Order down . "
It ’s very imaginable that Leia might meet her end at the hands of her son - solidifying his permanent villainy - or that she might survive the ship crash somehow and pass away off television camera . Lucasfilm confirmed that theywill not have actress Carrie Fisher issue via VFXfor Episode IX soStar Wars : The Last Jediis the last chapter for Leia onscreen , one way or another . An offscreen death does n’t seem worthy of such a pivotal grapheme but an offscreen demise at the hands of hersonwould check in with the themes ofStar Wars . Family , indistinguishability , and role and how they can be used and misuse are at the core of these tale and having Kylo Ren defeat his mother to please his master , or at the very least to save himself might be a prudent way of taking Carrie out of the picture . It would make redemption for Kylo Ren , formerly Ben Solo , even less possible though . It ’s unlikely that theStar Warsfilmswould take fans down such a blue path as it would forever dominatetheirdestiny . Then again , people enjoin that about theEmpire Strikes Backas well .
Another challenging chance presents itself . Kylo Ren ’s palpable anger can be felt throughout the trailer . The moments before that last pivotal dig see Rey suffering at the hand of Snoke . Behind him is what looks like a potty , or perhaps a console . Kylo Ren ’s anger at his mask is very noticeable and there are multiple shots of him stew over the First Order hanger bay . Could Ren conceivably be shooting atSnokein some twisted effort to try and protect Rey?Just because the trailer veer him and his female parent together is n’t revelatory of him killinghereven if the scene takes situation during a blank fight in which Ren is taking part . There ’s a very real chance that he could n’t fetch himself to kill his female parent , after all , she canonically cared for him and while both parents ultimately claim saving the coltsfoot more seriously then save their family there ’s no truer bond than the one between a female parent and her shaver .
Still , it ’s hard not to argue with the fact . Carrie Fisher ’s previousrole in instalment IXcan’t happen and the action of the other characters seem to hint at her pass as well . Poe Dameron delivers that unbelievable line amid the stiff of a battle for one , as if he were taking command of the Resistance . That unforgettable look between Leia and the audience mingled with the emotion of her Word certainly are intended to suggest the narration that Ren will be adding matricide to his list of crimes . Couple that with John Boyega ’s promise thatStar Warsepisode 9 will be " The war to finish all war " and things are looking mordant . While it would turn Ren down an even darker path and make the final scene of the trailer utterly tragic , Mark Hamill ’s Luke Skywalker himself warns the consultation in the story , " This is not going to go the style you think , " while directorRian Johnson discourage fansthat the dawdler is spoilery - yttrium for some fans .
